Will resetting wallet transaction history fix a stuck swap?

Clearing wallet transaction history removes local records. It does not erase the chain’s transactions, change confirmed balances or consume a pending nonce. Treat it as a targeted software troubleshooting step, not a general swap repair.

MetaMask’s reset guidance distinguishes clearing account activity from resetting the entire wallet and recommends using the activity reset only with support guidance. These actions have different operational consequences.

Check chain state first

Save the transaction hashes, sender, chain and nonce information. Determine whether the explorer shows pending, success or failure. If a transaction is pending onchain or privately submitted, hiding it in the wallet does not remove its execution possibility.

A later new transaction can therefore interact with a queue you no longer see clearly. This is why preserving evidence matters before local cleanup.

When local cleanup may be relevant

A wallet may retain stale activity after a provider or application problem. If official support identifies that condition and directs a reset, follow the current instructions for the exact wallet version. Do not copy an old guide that uses “reset” ambiguously.

Never uninstall or reset the whole wallet casually when you have not verified your legitimate recovery arrangements, especially for separately imported accounts. Do not disclose those arrangements to support.

After any local cleanup, verify the same account and network and reconcile the existing chain state before signing another swap. A cleaner activity panel is not proof that the original transaction was cancelled.
