Dropped and replaced swap: which transaction matters?

“Dropped and replaced” points you to another transaction that used the original sender’s nonce. The replacement’s contents and receipt determine what happened; the label does not tell you whether you traded or cancelled.

Etherscan explains the same-nonce replacement relationship. A higher-fee copy of the swap and a cancellation can both replace an earlier hash, but their outcomes differ.

Follow the replacement hash

1. Open the replacement shown by the explorer or wallet.
2. Verify the sender, network and nonce.
3. Check its action and receipt status.
4. Reconcile token movements and the network fee.

If the replacement is the same swap with higher fees, inspect the resulting output. If it is a cancellation, confirm that the intended token exchange did not occur under that nonce. If it failed, diagnose the replacement’s failure rather than the unmined original.

Watch for several replacements

You may have an original, two speed-ups and a later cancellation. Keep following the chain of records until you reach the transaction that actually included. A stale wallet entry may still display one of the earlier hashes.

The original dropped hash does not produce an additional onchain execution charge merely because it appeared in the pending pool. Fees shown before confirmation can be estimates. Separate them from receipts for other confirmed actions, such as approval.

If the replacement is unfamiliar, inspect the account’s activity carefully. It could reflect another wallet application using the same account, or unauthorized signing access; do not assume every replacement came from the button you last pressed.
