Selling a pegged token on BSC changes the asset you hold through a market trade. Redeeming it invokes the issuer's or bridge's conversion mechanism. The two routes can produce different assets, use different eligibility rules and finish on different networks.
Binance's BTCB explanation describes a reserve-backed representation of BTC on BSC. That relationship helps explain what BTCB represents; it does not make a BTCB-to-USDT swap a Bitcoin withdrawal. The swap's final asset remains the selected USDT representation on BSC.
Write down the final destination
| Intended result | Question to resolve |
|---|---|
| Another token on BSC | What executable market quote delivers it? |
| The underlying asset on its original chain | Which supported redemption or withdrawal process delivers that asset there? |
| Credit at a centralized service | Does that service accept this exact BSC representation? |
The same approach applies to BSC tokens representing assets whose original networks are Solana, XRP Ledger or another chain. A recognizable ticker describes the intended economic reference; the BSC contract and exit mechanism establish the actual route.
Reserve backing is not a standing bid
A backing claim and a DEX price answer different questions. Binance's collateral reference concerns pegged-token backing, distinct from exchange proof of reserves. It is not a guaranteed market quote for a particular trade size, nor proof that every holder can redeem directly under every circumstance.
For a fair comparison, write the entire sequence for each available exit. Include the assets received at intermediate stages, any service account requirements, waiting periods, costs and the supported destination network. Use current service terms rather than a historical bridge tutorial.
WBNB is a different kind of wrapper
Canonical WBNB unwrapping converts its token units into native BNB on the same chain. It is not a general model for redeeming every pegged asset. There is no universal “unwrap” action that turns any BSC representation into an asset on another network.
If the purpose is simply to acquire another BSC asset, a market trade may match the goal. If the purpose is to receive the original-chain asset, verify that endpoint explicitly before treating the exit as complete.
