CoW Swap market, limit and time-based orders

Compare CoW Swap market, limit and TWAP orders using their execution conditions, wallet requirements and monitoring needs.

CoW order types express different instructions. A market swap seeks current execution, a limit order waits for acceptable pricing, and a TWAP divides execution into scheduled parts. None guarantees a profitable outcome.

Choose by the condition you need

OrderMain decisionWhat can remain unresolved
MarketAccept the present quote conditions.Whether the order has actually settled.
LimitSpecify an acceptable price and validity.Whether enough execution value exists to cover settlement.
TWAPSpecify scheduled parts and protection.Completion of each part and remaining exposure.

The limit-order guide explains that an order may need a market price better than its limit to cover network costs. Its “Executes at” display is therefore more informative than merely observing a chart touch the requested price.

Partial fills need their own review

The same guide describes partially fillable limit orders as the default and an option to change that behavior. A small remainder can be uneconomic to execute. Track remaining quantity rather than equating the first fill with complete execution.

TWAP has an account requirement

The documented TWAP interface requires a Safe wallet. It also distinguishes initial submission, collection of required signatures and an active order. A proposed Safe action is not yet an active trading schedule.

For cancellation, coordinate the necessary signers and confirm the resulting state. The operational task is broader than setting a duration once and leaving the screen.

Do not pick TWAP solely because the word suggests lower impact. Spreading execution also exposes later parts to changing market prices. Use the type whose conditions you understand and can monitor.

  1. Limit orders

Execution must cover network fees; partial-fill settings and the displayed executable price affect order eligibility.

  2. TWAP orders

Safe wallet required in documented workflow; scheduled parts and multisignature lifecycle. Numeric minimums conflict within source, omitted.
