BSC LP tokens: selling the token versus removing liquidity

A fungible liquidity-provider token represents a share in a pool. Removing liquidity uses that share to withdraw the underlying assets. Selling the LP token, if a market accepts it, transfers the receipt itself to someone else. These operations can lead to different assets and amounts.

PancakeSwap's liquidity overview distinguishes conventional V2 LP tokens from newer position formats. Check the pool version before searching for a swap input: the fact that a portfolio calls something “liquidity” does not establish that it is an ordinary fungible token.

What removal actually returns

For a two-asset V2 pool, the withdrawal follows your share of the pool's current balances. It is not a promise to return the exact token quantities originally deposited. Trading and fee accumulation can change the pool composition while you hold the receipt.

The liquidity guide provides the removal workflow. Review the amounts for both assets, the selected percentage and the receiving account. If the LP receipt is deposited in another product, accessing it may first require that product's withdrawal process.

Work backward from the desired final asset

Suppose, hypothetically, the goal is to turn a BNB/stablecoin liquidity position entirely into the stablecoin. Removing the position first produces its underlying components. The BNB-related component may then need a separate swap. A displayed total dollar value is not a ready-to-spend stablecoin balance.

Some interfaces combine removal and conversion. Read the combined operation's final token amounts instead of assuming it is equivalent to basic removal. Native BNB and WBNB outputs also need to be distinguished if part of the proceeds will pay for later transactions.

Before committing, compare the complete exit: whether the receipt is accessible, which assets removal returns, which follow-up trade is needed, and what native BNB the account must retain. A quote for the LP receipt alone answers only one part of that plan.
