Recover from wallet disconnection without losing swap history

Wallet disconnection removes the application's ability to request certain wallet actions. It does not reverse a transaction that was already broadcast or invalidate every signed order already submitted.

EIP-1193 distinguishes connection events, account changes and chain changes. Handle those signals according to their meaning instead of resetting the whole application into an empty state.

Clear authority, preserve evidence

Disable new signing and sending while the required wallet context is unavailable. Invalidate executable quotes tied to that context, and discard late quote results from the old account generation.

Retain transaction hashes, order identifiers and their chain associations under the application's history policy. Those references support public read-only observation without requiring the wallet to remain connected.

Reconnect to a context, not a promise

When access returns, read the current account and chain again. Do not assume they match the context before disconnection. Reconcile pending attempts under their original account identities before presenting them alongside the newly selected account.

Require a fresh quote for a new action. Reconnection should not automatically reopen an old signature prompt or resend a transaction whose outcome is unknown.

Keep the distinction visible

The interface can say “Wallet disconnected; transaction still being tracked” when that is supported by the stored evidence. If tracking is temporarily unavailable too, show that uncertainty separately rather than calling the transaction failed.

Respect the product's privacy and history-retention choices. Preserving useful evidence does not require retaining every unsigned quote or complete wallet session data.

Test disconnection before signing, immediately after a transaction hash is returned and while an intent remains open. The first can return to a reconnect state; the latter two need continuing or resumable observation. Also test reconnecting with a different account so historical records are not reassigned accidentally.
