Cross-chain swaps

Choosing a cross-chain aggregator by the complete route

Choose a cross-chain route by delivered asset, required actions, bridge dependency and fallback policy before comparing its net quote.

A cross-chain provider is a good fit when its route delivers the asset you need to the account that can use it, under completion and recovery rules you understand. The largest network count or lowest visible bridge fee is not enough.

Start with four fixed inputs: the source token contract and chain, the destination token contract and chain, the amount, and the recipient. A native asset, a wrapped version and a similarly named bridged token are different deliverables.

Set constraints before asking for the cheapest route

LI.FI’s quote interface distinguishes speed and cost preferences and permits provider filters. These are useful because “best” depends on constraints: you may prefer a route with no destination signature, or exclude a bridge whose operation you do not accept. A cheaper route outside those constraints is not an equivalent alternative.

Include gas you must separately fund, any extra destination action and the fallback outcome. LI.FI documents cases where an unsuccessful destination conversion leaves an intermediate token on the destination chain. That is different from receiving your original token back.

Direct provider or aggregation interface?

A direct provider interface can make one route easier to inspect. An aggregator can expose alternatives without opening several sites. Neither arrangement by itself establishes lower risk or cost. If both select the same underlying bridge, compare any added swap legs, service fees and support workflow rather than treating the interfaces as independent transport systems.

Finally, retain the selected provider and transaction reference. Quote superiority has little practical value if the receiving account cannot complete the flow or the user cannot determine what happened after the source transaction.
