Compare a token-paid network charge with a native-token fee

A token-denominated network charge still has an economic cost. Compare it with a native-token payment by valuing both in the same unit and checking whether either charge is already embedded in the receiving amount.

Normalize two payment arrangements

In a hypothetical swap, Route A delivers 1,000 output tokens and charges gas separately worth $0.60. Route B calculates the same gross output but deducts four output tokens for execution. At an assumed $0.20 per output token, B's deduction is worth $0.80.

A leaves $199.40 of net value. B delivers 996 tokens worth $199.20. Under these assumptions, paying directly in the native asset is $0.20 cheaper. That ranking would change with a different deduction or token valuation.

The payment asset is not the fee base

A service can quote a token charge using a conversion rate, a margin or additional operational costs. The fact that its charge is denominated in a stablecoin does not establish that it equals the network's native-asset bill.

ERC-4337 includes paymaster arrangements that can support token-paid or sponsored execution. This capability explains why the user-facing payment asset can differ from the underlying network payment; it does not fix a universal conversion rate or service price.

Compare what leaves the wallet

List gross output, deductions, final output and any separate payment. If B's headline quote already shows 996 tokens, do not subtract four again. For A, include the actual native balance spent even though the token receipt remains 1,000.

Alternative payment can have practical value for a wallet without native gas, but that convenience is a separate consideration from which method costs less. Preserve both the native payment and the token deduction in their original units so the comparison can be recalculated without relying on a stale dollar display.
