Why BEP-20 swaps still need native BNB

Holding a BEP-20 token does not automatically fund an ordinary BNB Smart Chain transaction. BSC uses native BNB for gas; token balances are separate accounting entries. A portfolio can therefore show substantial value while the account cannot yet submit a conventional swap.

The network overview assigns BNB the role of paying for smart-contract execution. CAKE identifies a DEX ecosystem token, TWT a wallet ecosystem token, and USDT a stablecoin representation. Their names do not change the network's fee asset.

Check the gas balance on the correct network

The BNB that matters is the native balance of the account executing the transaction on BSC. BNB held on an exchange, on opBNB, in a staking position or as WBNB is not the same spendable balance. Before planning a sequence of actions, check the account and chain together.

A token-to-token trade may require an approval and then a swap. A later transfer adds another transaction. The useful question is therefore not just “Can I afford this swap?” but “Which actions must this account complete, and how will each be funded?” Use current wallet estimates for that sequence.

Sponsored gas is an explicit product feature

There are alternatives to personally holding the native fee asset. BNB Chain documents an EOA paymaster design under which a sponsor can cover qualifying transactions. This requires an integrated wallet or service and a sponsor policy; it is not an automatic property of every BEP-20 token.

If an interface offers token-paid or sponsored execution, inspect which account, token and action it supports and what it charges. Without that explicit arrangement, plan around native BNB. Expected BNB output from a future trade should not be counted as gas already available before the trade executes.
