A permanently hardcoded Settler address can turn a legitimate 0x deployment change into an outage. Accepting every address returned by an API creates a different validation gap. The integration needs a maintained deployment policy.
The 0x contract documentation distinguishes the execution address from the approval spender and warns against approving Settler. The transaction destination should come from the current quote; permission decisions require the designated allowance target.
Separate discovery from validation
Use the provider's documented contract registry or deployment information as an independent input to your validation policy. Associate the accepted deployment with a chain and execution mode. Do not validate an address against a cross-chain union of every router ever observed.
If a quote points to a deployment your application cannot verify, stop before the wallet prompt and raise a configuration alert. Do not automatically approve the address to “make the swap work.” That response confuses destination validation with token authority.
Preserve deployment context
Record the destination, allowance spender, provider version and validation-policy version for each attempt. This makes a rollout diagnosable without retaining complete signatures or sensitive request headers.
A deployment update should not mutate an already reviewed payload. Requote if the application needs a different destination, then show the new terms and revalidate the resulting transaction.
Exercise the transition
Use fixtures for the currently accepted deployment, a newly documented deployment awaiting configuration, a known address on the wrong chain and an unrelated address. The latter three should not be treated alike in diagnostics, but none should bypass the execution gate.
Keep approval checks independent in every fixture. A valid Settler destination remains an invalid reason to grant Settler an ERC-20 allowance.
