0x API keys and rate plans: what to check before launch

Obtain a 0x account and application key before treating the service as a production dependency. The official key guide describes dashboard onboarding; the dashboard also provides the account context needed to manage an integration.

The published free rate is an approximate starting point

On September 24, 2026, the rate-limit page states approximately five requests per second for the free tier. It describes a fixed one-second window and calls across endpoints. Consult the current dashboard and agreement for the limit actually assigned to your app.

A key is an access credential, not a promise that every feature has identical limits or that creating more credentials purchases more capacity. Establish the applicable sharing rule with the provider before dividing traffic across environments.

Plan for screens, not only trades

A single user can request several prices while changing amount or destination token. A busy screen may consume capacity even when that user never signs. Count those interactions when evaluating a tier.

For example, ten simultaneous sessions that each need one fresh quote are already a different traffic shape from ten sessions spread across a minute. Average daily trades conceal that difference. The relevant planning input is peak API work, including normal refreshes and retries.

Before production launch

• Assign an owner for the dashboard account and billing relationship.
• Confirm the request budget for each environment.
• Identify the route to increase limits before a planned traffic event.
• Keep API credentials out of public frontend code.
• Document support contacts and current product coverage.

These checks do not replace technical retry and error handling. They prevent a different failure: deploying an integration whose agreed access capacity never matched the product's expected demand.
